Developing a Youth Mentoring Partnership

“Youth mentorship” refers to the process by which youth move from being passive recipients of knowledge to taking responsibility for their own learning and that of their peers.  Youth who are empowered to successfully take on that responsibility can be innovative, brilliant mentors.  In order to develop mentorship skills, youth must feel as if they have power in their programs and organizations equal to that of the adults who guide them.  The goal of Developing Youth Mentoring Partnerships is to demonstrate ways to create programming that responds to the needs, concerns and interests of youth in your community and allows them to grow into strong and responsible mentors.
